Exciting Day

Today was our first day of language school.  My mouth hurts.  I’m learning to make sounds we don’t use in English.  We also picked out a refrigerator, washing machine, dryer, microwave, mixer, and wand.  Then Mara drove for the first time.  (I haven’t gotten behind the wheel yet.)  It was quite a day.

  1. WOW, once again, the devotional book relates specifically to you..it was about how frustrating learning a new language can be ( for Sept. 12 even!)..the verse: “The Lord said to him, Who gave man his mouth? Is it not I,the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say. Exodus 4:11-12 and prayer: “Heavenly Father, learning languages must be extremely difficult for missionaries in a new country. Help them, Lord, to learn quickly. Let them fully trust You in learning a language. Give me the words to speak to those I encounter today.
How neat is that? Our God is truly awesome! I feel so close to you as I read and pray for you. I can’t wait to send this book to you as soon as you have an address. May He continue to bless you in getting all your new possessions and as you gain new skills and embark on new adventures each day!! Love you!

  2. I’m always amazed at how God links believers together. God will not only direct us in what to say and how to say it, He directed you in what to say (pray). This gives me even more confidence. If God can tell believers when and what to pray, he can teach me how to make the nasty “R” sound they use in Portuguese:)

  3. Andy & Mara–

We hope that you have great success in language school. It’s tough to learn a language as an adult! The kids will be fluent quickly, I’m sure. But when you’re in the environment and hear it used all the time, you’ll pick it up. I’m sorry to say I don’t know a word of Portuguese. Mais je sais le français. 🙂 So happy to hear about the apartment that the Lord provided. He is truly great! Praying for you–

  4. You are never too old to learn is what comes to my mind. Isn’t that great that GOD can use us in a different culture. Stay open to His leading and teaching. Stay open to the adventure of being in another part of this world that is not our home, learning and sharing the gospel of grace. I mentioned you and laguage school at church last night. I need to get your blog to our new Pastor so he can see you and hear from you. ~K~
